Fire Bucket?

From time to time, we have things that we don't know much about.  Many of our searches have come up cold.  So we are asking for your help.

Do you know what this is?   Do you know what it was used for?  Do you know who made it?  Do you know it's origin?  Do you know it's value?

Please share information on these items if you can!  Thanks!

What we know so far:

From the information contained on the bottom of this bucket, we found it's origin to be the United Indurated Fibre Co., Lockport, NY.   It appears that the Lockport Pulp Company existed 1880-1941.

We found this item in a warehouse located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  We believe it to be an antique fire bucket, but we are unsure.  It is made of fiber.

This view of the bottom of the bucket shows that is it rounded at the bottom, instead of flat.  It appears that it was meant to hang and not sit directly on it's bottom.

The wording shown on the bottom says "United Indurated Fibre Co."

Additional wording says "Lockport   NY   USA"

fibrotta
I recently visited my hometown, Lockport, NY and toured the Niagara County historical museum where there were at least a dozen examples of "fibrotta", and other information about the United Fibre Company that produced this product. I also went on the Lockport caves tour ( Erie barge canal) and walked through a 1600 foot water power tunnel that provided water power to United Fibre Company .

United Indurated Fibre Co.
Hi All. I'm so excited to see so many of you trying to find information about your United Indurated Fibre Co. products. I e-mailed Cornelius Peterson shortly after the e-mail address was given to me on this site; however, he didn't answer back. This means that I, too, am still looking for more information and values related to the bucket shown on this website. If you found my website, you probably also found this one: http://www.lockportcave.com/lockportlocks_eriecanal_pulp.html. I may try to contact the Erie Canal Museum at some point to see what they can tell me. Another option to is contact a Fire Museum locally. One of these days, I'll have time to pursue this further. When I do, I'll share what I have found on this website!

United Indentured Fibre Company Pitcher
It's sooo exciting to find you on here!! I have a friend who acquired a pitcher, pretty damaged on the pour area - but he really likes it. (-: The info from the bottom is United Indentured Fibre Co(top 1/2 of circle base) Lockport N.Y. U.S.A. (bottom half of circle on base) Patten NOV 1882 - Era 1883 May 25 1886 - with 22 or two S's backward. It has a picture going around it of a male and female in spanish dress (sombreros, etc) a metal handle held by two thin wires. We would appreciate any information you could give us!! A value would be appreciated too - his wife swears he wasted his money!! LOL I hope the same as the lady above - that you're still active on this site!!! Blessings!

United Indurated Fibre Co pitcher
Could you please tell me the value of a pitcher I have? It still has the label that says UNITED INDURATED FIBRE CO
"FIBROTTA" (or "PIBROTTA") LOCKPORT N.Y. U.S,A. WARRANTED COPYRIGHT 1889 Liquid Measure 2 Qts.

The bottom has the same company information with additional dates: Patented NOV 1882 FEB 1883 MAY 25, 1888 with the #22 embosed or imprinted backwards. I hope this thread is still active, you're the only place I've found any info about this company. Thank you.

It has a metal handle that is secured with two tight wires that are imbedded in the pitcher. The only damage is a 1/2" x 1/8th inch chip on the side near the upper lip.

United Indurated Fibre Co
The company went bankrupt in 1914 unfortunately. The only people that I know to collect them are my family and I have never heard of others who do so...

I have a production list somewhere but I will need to find it. Please email me at cpete07@stlawu.edu for further communication.

United Inurated Fibre Bucket
This is fascinating! Can you confirm that this is indeed a fire bucket? Do you know how many different types of fire bucket were produced? Do you know the year(s) that this particular bucket was produced and how many of them were produced? Also, do you know anyone who collects these? A lot of questions, I know! Thanks for any information you can provide.
